These cinquefoils (also check out Potentilla fruticosa and P. anserina)serve as survival food, tea and also have medicinal properties. They grow in moist to wet places. Use Silverweed's (P. anserina) roots as a survival food. the elaves of all Potentilla plants make a tasty tea, similar in taste to green or weak black tea. The entire herb (all potentillas) is used for medicinal purposes. The anti-inflammatory and astringent properties make it helpful with mouth and gum problems, also stomach aches. Add the herb to slaves and tinctures to speed healing. Be aware that because of the high tannin content, if consumed in large quantites it can irritate the bowels and kidneys.
