I have made some delicious jam from the ripe, mature fruit and it is so very good for you and your heart health. I have seen two sizes of fruit on these trees. I don't know why some shrubs have larger and juicer fruit but if you want to eat them fresh, make sure they are very ripe or you will get your mouth all puckered up and swear off eating them. It also makes a good fruit leather if you get the tough seeds out. A food meal/sieve will do the trick. Also, remember that this plant tends to be invasive. If you doubt that please check the distribution map for this plant. I've planted it on my property and I hope it spreads. The nutritional value for it makes it a worthwhile crop to cultivate. The fruit can be picked with the same equipment that is used to pick blueberries. If anyone is interested in farming this plant, please contact me.
